Rhapsody vs. Yahoo! Music Unlimited
This story is short, and Rhapsody won.
Yahoo!’s client software simply wouldn’t install on my machine. My computer meets all of the specified requirements, and the ultimate error message it gave me was ‘you must be connected to the internet.’ And that was after I had gone through all the trouble of signing up for the free trial and putting in my payment info (since they assume you will continue the service beyond the trial, I guess). After double-checking that my Windows Media Player (yuck) was the right version and verifying that I had over 64MB of RAM, I tried to install the client one more time. When that failed, I cancelled my subscription. Total time: 20 minutes or more.
Rhapsody, on the other hand, worked perfectly, first try, no problems. Also, unlike Yahoo!, Rhapsody did not require me to enter any credit card information to get the free trial. I think I only had to fill out about 3 fields to get a Rhapsody account. Total time: 5 minutes or less.
Poking around, Rhapsody seems to work exactly as I expected. It even detected my Pocket PC, which was on the dock, although I haven’t tried to put any Rhapsody tunes on there yet.
