Hello from Zend PHP Conference 2006

November 1st, 2006

Zend’s morning keynote yesterday was rather disorganized, but other than that the conference is exceeding my expectations. The keynote from Chris Anderson was incredible, and notable presentations so far include Adam Trachtenberg’s presentation on EBay web services and Stephen O’Grady’s presentation on the place of PHP in the enterprise. I’m sure many will cover the content in more detail. If I could point to one thing that seems to dominate this conference, it would be XML. With IBM pushing DB2 hard and a whole third of the conference devoted to web services, XML is on everyone’s mind. For work, I’ve been investigating XQuery and XML storage engines of late, so I’m glad to learn more about that. Keep an eye out for more from me on XML databases in the coming weeks.
