Doing my first talk: The Command Line Ecosystem… hidden on your Mac

April 7th, 2009

I’m giving a talk on Saturday at Machine Project entitled The Command Line Ecosystem… hidden on your Mac.

I approached Machine Project about doing ‘a talk’, with nothing specific in mind. After brainstorming, we decided the constituency of Machine Project might curious about (or even have a need for) command-line interaction.

Other subjects I’ve been itching to give talks about are Vim and regular expressions. We’ll see what kind of interest the first talk generates at Machine Project.

The class does have a small fee (not for me; Machine has bills to pay and they rule; support them!). You can get the official information and sign up here.

I’m developing a web page that users will follow during the talk. They’ll be able to copy and paste commands in full from textareas, but I’ll encourage at least one try typing each command, and copying and pasting when typos get in the way of progress. Once the first talk is over, I’ll publish the class script and a little command line cheat sheet.
